LEGAL

Cruelty

It is a criminal offence under the Protection of Animals Act 1911 to cause or allow cruelty to a dog and this arises if a dog suffers unnecessarily. Such cases are usually investigated by the RSPCA and are generally dealt with very severely by Courts if the case is found proven. Penalties may include prison and there is a strong likelihood that the offender will be disqualified from keeping animals.
